The muted tones contrast with the sharp, organic, vibrant greens, pinks and purples that stand out against the darker background. Glowing amidst the dark, fragmented space, this evokes a sense of resilience and survival.

Richly layered oil painting inspired by the unloved and miss understood common Thistle. The muted tones contrast with the sharp, organic, vibrant greens, pinks and purples that stand out against the darker background. Glowing amidst the dark, fragmented space, this evokes a sense of resilience and survival.

According to legend, Viking invaders at stirling castle stepped on thistles whilst trying to enter the castle grounds. Their screams alerted the defenders allowing the castle to be protected. The thistle thus became the scottish national flower. not a weed but a prickly protector. the common thistle Cirsium vulgare is also hugely beneficial to wildlife, a number of insects rely on thistles for habtat and a source of food

    Protected with a satin varnish which gives a light sheen.

    Signed certificate of authenticity attached on the back of the painting.
